More than 2,000 job seekers, veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and family members came together Wednesday at the Kalahari Convention Center in Round Rock for Job Fair-Con 2026, making it one of the largest veteran-focused hiring events in Central Texas.

The impressive turnout reflected more than the popularity of a job fair. It highlighted something employers across the region already know: veterans bring the leadership, discipline, technical expertise, adaptability, and mission-driven mindset businesses need to compete in today's economy.

As Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) has highlighted throughout the week, hiring veterans isn't simply about honoring military service. It's about recognizing a highly skilled talent pool that strengthens businesses, fills critical workforce needs, and helps drive economic growth across Central Texas.

Hosted through a partnership between WSRCA, the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), Workforce Solutions Capital Area, and the Texas Workforce Commission's Texas Veterans Leadership Program (TVLP), Job Fair-Con brought together employers, workforce partners, educators, and community organizations committed to helping military-affiliated talent successfully transition into civilian careers.

More Than a Hiring Event

The convention center was filled with conversations from the moment doors opened as employers met face-to-face with job seekers representing years of leadership experience, technical training, and real-world problem-solving skills.

Many employers conducted on-site interviews, allowing qualified candidates to begin the hiring process before leaving the event. Others introduced attendees to career pathways, apprenticeships, and advancement opportunities available across industries including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, construction, public safety, government, transportation, technology, education, finance, and the skilled trades.

Throughout the day, attendees also participated in rotating workforce training sessions that covered career planning, interview preparation, and workforce resources available throughout Central Texas. These sessions gave participants practical tools they can continue using long after the event concluded.

Job Fair-Con focused on preparing attendees for success in every aspect of their job search. Complimentary professional headshots helped participants strengthen their resumes and online profiles. Sports Clips generously provided free professional haircuts, while workforce professionals and community organizations offered individualized career guidance and support.

Outside the convention center, a classic car show added to the welcoming atmosphere, giving attendees, employers, volunteers, and families another opportunity to connect and enjoy the event together.

Why Employers Continue to Invest in Veteran Talent

More than 200 employers chose to participate because they recognize the tremendous value military talent brings to the workplace.

Veterans have spent their careers leading teams, solving complex challenges, adapting to rapidly changing environments, and accomplishing missions where accountability and collaboration are essential. Those qualities translate seamlessly into today's workforce and continue to make veterans among the most sought-after employees across nearly every industry.

Military spouses also bring resilience, flexibility, and diverse professional experience developed through frequent relocations and changing career environments. Together, veterans and military spouses represent an exceptional talent pipeline that helps employers fill critical positions while strengthening their organizations for the future.

Job Fair-Con provided employers with direct access to this talent while giving job seekers an opportunity to meet hiring managers, ask questions, and showcase their skills in person. For many attendees, those conversations turned into interviews. For others, they opened doors that may lead to future careers.

Partnerships Build Stronger Communities

Events like Job Fair-Con are only possible because so many organizations choose to work together in service of a common mission.

WSRCA extends its heartfelt gratitude to every employer, community partner, service organization, volunteer, presenter, sponsor, and workforce professional who dedicated their time, expertise, and passion to making this year's event a success. Whether you recruited talent, conducted interviews, shared workforce resources, led training sessions, or simply welcomed attendees with a smile, your commitment helped create opportunities that will continue to benefit veterans, military families, businesses, and our region for years to come.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to every attendee who placed their trust in the process. To every veteran, transitioning service member, military spouse, and family member, thank you for your service, your resilience, and your continued commitment to strengthening our communities.

Investing in the Future of Central Texas

Job Fair-Con demonstrated what's possible when employers, workforce organizations, educators, and community partners invest in people.

Every interview conducted, every new connection made, every training session attended, and every conversation shared represented another step toward building a stronger workforce and a stronger regional economy.

Veterans have already demonstrated their ability to lead under pressure, solve problems, embrace change, and serve something greater than themselves. When employers invest in that talent, they aren't just filling open positions. They are building stronger businesses, supporting innovation, and helping ensure Central Texas remains one of the nation's most dynamic and resilient regional economies.

WSRCA is proud to stand alongside the employers and partners who continue to recognize the extraordinary value veterans and military families bring to our workforce. Together, we are creating opportunities that strengthen businesses, empower individuals, and build a brighter future for all of Central Texas.
