CEDAR PARK, Texas – What comes after high school doesn’t have to look the same for every student. This summer, Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) launched a Youth Services awareness campaign to help high school students and their families explore opportunities after graduation. From college and apprenticeships to workforce training, internships, and entering the workforce directly, the campaign encouraged students to consider pathways that align with their goals, interests, and strengths.

Helping Students Answer “What Comes Next?”

Throughout the summer, WSRCA shared educational articles, social media content, short-form videos, infographics, and community resources to make planning for life after high school easier and more approachable. Topics included career exploration, internships, apprenticeships, workforce training, college preparation, financial literacy, workplace readiness, and essential life skills.

Graduation can bring excitement, but it can also bring pressure to have an education or career plan figured out immediately. WSRCA’s campaign emphasized that there isn’t one right pathway after high school. Exploring options, gaining experience, developing skills, and asking questions can all help students find the path that works for them.

“Career exploration shouldn’t begin when a young person graduates. It should be part of the conversation long before then,” said Kelly Moreno, Chief Solutions Officer for WSRCA. “Our K-12 efforts help students connect their interests and strengths to real careers and understand the many pathways available to them. The earlier students and families have that knowledge, the more confidently they can plan what comes next.”

Giving Parents a Role Without Choosing the Path

Parents and families were also an important part of the campaign. Content encouraged parents to help young adults build independence by teaching practical life skills, discussing finances and future goals, and giving students greater ownership of their decisions and responsibilities.

The goal isn’t for parents to have every answer or make every decision. It’s to provide support while helping young people develop the confidence and skills to make those decisions for themselves.

Connecting Young People With Career Resources

The campaign also connected students and families with free workforce and career resources available through WSRCA and its partners, including career coaching and assessments, job search assistance, internships, workshops, hiring events, and workforce development programs.

Students and families can explore resources including:

• Career Ready Central Texas: Explore career pathways and connect education, skills, and interests with opportunities available across Central Texas.
• WorkInTexas: Create a free account to search for jobs, upload resumes, and connect with employers across Texas.
• My Texas Future: Explore careers based on interests, compare salaries, and discover education or training pathways.
• Texas Intern Network: Search for internship opportunities across Texas through the statewide platform, with streamlined searches and AI-powered tools to help with resumes and interview preparation.
• Texas Reality Check: Compare the cost of living with potential careers to better understand what income is needed to support future lifestyle goals.
• Career Workshops: WSRCA regularly offers free workshops covering topics such as resume writing, interview preparation, job search strategies, career exploration, and professional development.

Youth Services Continue Beyond Summer

While the summer campaign is coming to an end, WSRCA’s work with young people continues year-round. Through Youth Services and other workforce programs, WSRCA helps young people throughout the Rural Capital Area explore careers, build workplace skills, connect with education and training, and prepare for long-term success.

Students, parents, educators, and community partners are encouraged to connect with WSRCA to learn more about Youth Services and the career and workforce resources available throughout the Rural Capital Area.
