7 Things to Do Tonight Before You Go to Job Fair-Con Tomorrow

Tomorrow, more than 200 employers will gather under one roof for Job Fair-Con, the summer's largest hiring event in Central Texas.

Whether you're searching for your first job, looking for a better opportunity, changing careers, transitioning from military service, or returning to the workforce, you'll have the chance to meet employers who are hiring right now.

The best part? You still have time to prepare.

You don't need hours of planning. Spend just 30 to 45 minutes tonight getting organized, and you'll walk into Job Fair-Con feeling more confident and ready to make a great first impression.

Here are seven simple things you can do before tomorrow's event.

Update Your Resume

Your resume is often the first thing an employer sees, so give it one last review before you head out the door.

Make sure it includes:

  • Your current phone number and email address
  • Recent work experience
  • Relevant skills and certifications
  • No spelling or grammar mistakes

Bring several printed copies if possible. While many employers accept digital resumes, having printed copies makes it easier to hand one over during a conversation.

Research the Employers You Want to Meet

With more than 200 employers attending, you won't have time to visit every booth.

Take a few minutes tonight to identify the companies that interest you most. Learn a little about what they do, the positions they're hiring for, and why you'd like to work there.

Walking up and saying, "I saw your company is expanding in Central Texas," is a much stronger conversation starter than asking, "What does your company do?"

Practice Your Introduction

Sooner or later, someone will ask,

"Tell me about yourself."

You don't need a memorized speech.

Simply be ready to explain:

  • Who you are
  • What type of work you're looking for
  • One or two strengths or accomplishments that make you a good candidate

Practice saying it out loud a few times. You'll sound more natural and confident when the conversation begins.

Dress for the Opportunity You Want

You don't have to wear a business suit to make a professional impression.

Choose clean, neat clothing that fits the type of job you're pursuing. A polished appearance shows employers you're taking the opportunity seriously and helps you feel more confident walking into the event.

Lay everything out tonight so tomorrow morning is one less thing to worry about.

Prepare a Few Good Questions

Remember, you're interviewing employers just as much as they're getting to know you.

Some great questions include:

  • What qualities do your most successful employees have?
  • What training opportunities do you offer?
  • What does career growth look like at your company?
  • What advice would you give someone applying today?

Thoughtful questions create meaningful conversations and help employers remember you long after the event ends.

Keep an Open Mind

Some of the best opportunities may come from employers you've never heard of.

Central Texas has a diverse economy with growing careers in advanced manufacturing, health care, skilled trades, education, logistics, technology, public service, hospitality, and many other industries.

Don't skip a booth because the company name is unfamiliar. Your next career could be waiting where you least expect it.

Get a Good Night's Sleep

Preparation is important.

So is showing up rested.

Being alert, energetic, and ready to engage with employers often makes a bigger difference than trying to memorize interview answers late into the night.

Set your alarm, gather your resumes, charge your phone, and give yourself plenty of time to arrive tomorrow.

Tomorrow Could Change Your Career

Job Fair-Con is more than another hiring event.

It's an opportunity to meet employers face to face, discover careers you may not have considered, build professional connections, and explore resources that can support your career long after the event ends.

Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) is proud to partner with the Texas Veterans Commission and workforce partners from across the region to bring together the summer's largest hiring event in Central Texas. Whether you're a student, recent graduate, experienced professional, veteran, military spouse, or someone ready for a fresh start, tomorrow is your opportunity to take the next step.

Bring your resume.

Bring your questions.

Bring your confidence.

Your next career could begin with one conversation at Job Fair-Con tomorrow.
