Cruising Through Careers in Luling: Connecting Students to Their Future
Posted by: Brian Hernandez
Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA), in partnership with the Luling Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Luling, proudly hosted Cruising Through Careers in Luling, Texas, this week, bringing together students, employers, educators, and community leaders for a day focused on opportunity, exploration, and inspiration.
This engaging event welcomed high school students from Luling and Prairie Lea ISDs, giving them a firsthand look at the many career pathways available right now in their own community. Through interactive, real-world experiences, students explored high-demand industries and gained valuable insight into the skills and education needed to succeed.
Local employers and industry partners played a vital role in making the day impactful. By sharing their knowledge, experiences, and passion for their work, they helped students connect classroom learning to real-world applications. These meaningful interactions sparked curiosity, opened minds, and encouraged students to begin thinking about their future careers.
The event also highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between education, industry, and community leadership. We extend our sincere thanks to Luling Mayor CJ Watts, City Manager Mark McLaughlin, EDC Director Ari Arias, and Chamber Executive Director Ashley Flores for their continued support and commitment to creating opportunities for local students.
We also recognize and appreciate the leadership and engagement of WSRCA Board Members Mike Grant, Assistant Business Manager and Director of Business Development with IBEW Local 520, and Paul Boff, Coordinator for Career and Technical Education with Georgetown ISD, whose involvement helped strengthen the connection between education and workforce needs.
A special thank you to our WSRCA staff for organizing this impactful event and for sharing their insights with the next generation of the Rural Capital Area workforce. Your dedication behind the scenes made this experience possible and meaningful for every student who attended.
Cruising Through Careers was more than just an event. It was a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to invest in its youth. By exposing students to career and technical education pathways and local opportunities, we are helping build a stronger, more connected workforce for the future.
A heartfelt thank you to every employer, partner, elected official, educator, and volunteer who made this day possible. Your dedication is helping students see what is possible and inspiring them to take the next step toward their future.
