San Marcos Southside Community Center Back-to-School Event
Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area’s Child Care team joined in with vendors and volunteers at the Southside Community Center Back-to-School Event, Saturday, August 5th. This event was made possible by Methodist Health Care and Ministries and Southside Community Center.
Southside Community Center hosted 9 organizations and partners that provided free resources to students—offering school supplies, book bags, haircuts, food, drinks, and surprise gifts. The attendees were asked to make donations for a chance to win four tickets to the Texas Rangers baseball game. This event gave students resources to start the school year strong.
The Southside Community Center is a non-profit organization committed to improving the living welfare and well-being of those in need in Hays County. For the month of August, they were chosen by Balanced Nutrition as their sponsored organization. This raised monetary funds and school supplies for the Back-to-School Event.
The WSRCA child care team offered early care and education resources and played a fun hacky sack game with the children resulting in prizes. The San Marcos Library offered students and their families an opportunity to sign up for library cards to access their public book resources.
The event was a celebration of the community and its support for education.
