Summertime Safety Tips
Hey there! Summer is such a great time for kids, isn't it? They get to enjoy the warm weather, play outside, swim, and have a blast with all sorts of fun activities. But as parents, we also know it comes with some challenges we need to be prepared for.
At Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA), we care about your children's health and well-being, and we want to make sure they have a safe summer. So, let's go over some important safety tips!
First off, never, ever leave your child alone in a hot car. Temperatures inside a parked car can shoot up dangerously within minutes. Always make it a habit to check the back seat before locking the doors. You can even place a purse or cell phone back there as a reminder. Rolling down the windows or parking in the shade doesn't help much, so it's best to avoid that situation altogether.
Don't Get Burned, Slather on that Sunscreen!
Next, protecting your child from the sun is essential. Sunburn, heat exhaustion, and dehydration are no fun. Be sure to apply sunscreen with at least 30 SPF or higher to their skin before they head outdoors. Remember to reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating. And encourage them to seek shade during the hottest parts of the day and drink plenty of water to stay cool and hydrated.
Don't Let Mosquitos 'Bug' Your Child's Summer Fun
Now, let's talk about those pesky mosquitoes. Apart from being annoying, they can also pose health risks. Apply insect repellent to your child when they go outside, but be careful not to put it on their hands, eyes, mouth, or irritated skin. And keep an eye out for any bites, washing them with soap and water, and applying an ice compress. If your child experiences fever, rash, or headache after a mosquito bite, be sure to contact your doctor.
Last but not least, dressing your child in light clothing that covers their arms and legs is a great idea to protect them from those sneaky mosquitoes. And it's a good plan to keep them indoors when mosquitoes are most active, like at dawn, dusk, and after it rains.
By following these simple but crucial summertime safety tips, you'll help your children have an awesome, safe, and healthy summer.
