What If Your Trade Became Your Business?

There’s a moment a lot of skilled trades professionals hit after years on the job:

  1. You’re the one people rely on.
  2. You know how to solve problems.
  3. You’ve built the experience.
  4. You’ve earned the respect.

Then the thought creeps in:

"Could I actually run my own business?"

The answer is Yes!

Turning Experience Into Opportunity

Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) is helping skilled trades professionals turn years of hands-on experience into real business ownership opportunities through its new Trade to Entrepreneur Program.

See the Program Flyer

This initiative is designed for experienced trades professionals who are ready to move from employee to business owner. Electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, construction professionals, and other master-level trades workers are encouraged to apply.

Because let’s be honest. Knowing your trade and knowing how to run a business are two different skill sets.

You might know how to wire a building, install a system, or manage a job site like a pro. But figuring out pricing, marketing, business plans, taxes, and growth strategies? That can feel overwhelming when you’ve never been taught the business side of the industry.

That’s exactly why WSRCA created this opportunity.

More Than a Workshop

Participants will attend the Trades Conference on June 13, 2026, then continue into a 10-week virtual workshop series designed to help future business owners gain practical tools, guidance, and confidence.

They’ll also work one-on-one with a SCORE mentor, complete a business plan, and receive incentives as they hit important milestones throughout the program.

SCORE is a national nonprofit organization made up of experienced business mentors who help entrepreneurs start, grow, and succeed in business. For participants, that means access to real-world advice from professionals who understand what it takes to build something from the ground up.

This isn’t just motivation. It’s a roadmap.

Entrepreneurship Is Attainable

Entrepreneurship can feel intimidating when you’ve spent your career working for someone else. But the truth is, business ownership isn’t reserved for a select few. It’s attainable.

Every successful business owner started somewhere. Many started with exactly what these professionals already have: skill, determination, experience, and a strong work ethic.

What they needed next was support, guidance, and a plan.

That’s what this program provides.

WSRCA isn’t just encouraging people to dream bigger. It’s creating a structured path to help them get there.

And sometimes, having someone believe in your potential makes all the difference.

Strong Businesses Build Strong Communities

When local trades professionals build successful businesses, entire communities benefit.

New businesses create jobs. They strengthen local economies. They keep valuable talent rooted in Rural Capital Area communities.

Programs like this help create opportunities that last far beyond the 10-week series. They help build confidence, independence, and long-term economic growth across the region.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

The program is open to individuals living in Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, or Williamson counties who can commit to attending the conference and completing the full 10-week series.

Spots are limited, but the opportunity is real.

If you’ve spent years mastering your trade, this could be the moment to start building something of your own.
