Rural Capital Area Unemployment Rate Falls to 3.9% as Hiring Surge Continues

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The labor market recovery in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas continued its momentum in August 2021, with the unadjusted unemployment rate plummeting down to 3.9 percent, after dropping to 4.3 percent in July, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The local economy added 2,832 jobs from July to August, with employment rising by 20,521 year-to-year. The 3.9 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 22,557 residents seeking jobs. The region’s unemployment rate remained below the rate for Texas and the nation at 5.3 percent*, which both saw drops in August as well.
All counties within the Rural Capital Area region saw their unemployment rates decline below 5.0 percent in August. Among them, Blanco recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 3.3 percent. Burnet County was at 3.5 percent, and Williamson County came in at 3.8 percent. In Hays County, the unemployment rate dropped to 3.9 percent, and in Bastrop and Lee counties, the rate slid down to 4.2 percent. Fayette County was at 4.3 percent, Caldwell County recorded a 4.6 percent unemployment rate, and Llano County came in at 4.7 percent.
