Celebrating the Week of the Young Child: Honoring Early Learning and Those Who Make It Possible
Every year, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) hosts the Week of the Young Child (WOYC), a special week dedicated to recognizing early childhood education, young learners, and the professionals who nurture their development. The celebration takes place from April 5th to 12th. This event has daily themes that emphasize the importance of music, healthy eating, working together, and more.
Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area is proud to celebrate young children and highlight the vital role of early learning in shaping their futures. High-quality early education nurtures cognitive, social, and emotional development and builds a strong foundation for lifelong success.
What is the Week of the Young Child?
The Week of the Young Child is a nationwide celebration recognizing the importance of early childhood education and its impact on young learners. Hosted by NAEYC, this annual event encourages communities, educators, and families to come together and support young children through engaging, hands-on activities. Each day features a unique theme:
• Music Monday – Inspiring self-expression through music and movement.
• Tasty Tuesday – Exploring healthy eating habits and nutrition.
• Work Together Wednesday – Encouraging teamwork and problem-solving skills.
• Artsy Thursday – Fostering creativity through hands-on art projects.
• Family Friday – Celebrating families and their essential role in early learning.
WOYC reminds us of the importance of high-quality early education and the professionals who dedicate their lives to fostering young children’s growth and development.
Georgetown Early Learning Center’s WOYC Celebration
This year, the Georgetown Early Learning Center is joining the celebration by hosting a series of interactive activities that align with WOYC’s daily themes. The center’s dedicated staff is committed to providing young children with enriching experiences that support their development.
Elizabeth Thomison, Director of the Georgetown Early Learning Center, highlights the importance of celebrating WOYC and the center’s role in shaping young learners:
“I would like to emphasize the experiences of how we make an impact on the developing brain of our kiddos. Understanding why it’s important for our kiddos to have these experiences and have this playful mindset and have these chances to be hands-on and get messy.”
