Building Strong Financial Futures at Lockhart High School
It’s Your Money!
On March 27th, Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) had the opportunity to collaborate with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Capital Farm Credit to bring the It’s Your Money! financial literacy program to Lockhart High School. This immersive, hands-on event aimed at empowering young adults with the knowledge and tools to make informed financial decisions for their futures.
The It’s Your Money! program is a two-part initiative designed to help students understand the basics of personal finance. The first part provides in-depth financial education in the classroom, while the second part involves a Real-World Experience capstone activity. This interactive segment allows students to apply their new knowledge by making real-life financial decisions—without any real-world consequences.
One of the most exciting parts of the event was the game show hosted by Capital Farm Credit, where students had the chance to test their financial decision-making skills in a fun and engaging way. In addition, a financial presentation by RBFCU gave students the opportunity to learn more about managing their finances in a professional setting.
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of our incredible partners. A huge thank you goes to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Capital Farm Credit, and RBFCU for their dedication to bringing financial education to young adults. We also want to recognize the local businesses and organizations that contributed to the success of the event, including:
The It’s Your Money! program is an excellent example of how community partnerships can make a tangible impact on the lives of young people, helping them build the skills they need to take control of their financial futures.
At WSRCA, we believe in the importance of preparing young adults for success, not just in their careers, but also in their personal lives. Financial literacy is a crucial skill, and events like this are a great way to ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge to make sound financial decisions as they move forward in life.
