Central Texas College Science Lab Dedication: Why This Investment Matters for Our Region
Posted by: Brian Hernandez
Central Texas College (CTC) officially dedicated its newly enhanced Science Lab at the Marble Falls Campus today, marking an important investment in both education and the future of healthcare in our region.
With more than $60,000 invested in state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on learning tools, this lab represents a clear commitment to building a skilled, locally trained workforce prepared to meet growing healthcare demands.
And for Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA), this is exactly the kind of partnership that drives meaningful, long-term impact.
Meeting a Critical Healthcare Need
Healthcare workforce shortages continue to impact communities across Central Texas, with rural areas experiencing some of the greatest challenges.
Expanding access to training is a key part of the solution.
This enhanced lab provides students with hands-on experience in anatomy, physiology, and medical sciences using equipment that reflects real-world healthcare environments. That level of preparation is essential for students pursuing certifications and entering high-demand healthcare careers.
Strengthening the Local Talent Pipeline
When training opportunities are available locally, more students can participate, and more graduates remain in the region.
This is especially important for rural communities, where growing and retaining talent is essential to sustaining access to care. Students who train in these communities are more likely to build their careers here, contributing to a stronger and more responsive healthcare workforce.
Aligning Education with Workforce Needs
At WSRCA, we work closely with employers and training partners to identify current and future workforce needs and align training accordingly.
This investment by Central Texas College reflects that alignment.
Programs supported by facilities like this lab ensure students are gaining skills that meet industry expectations and certification standards. That connection between education and employment is critical to ensuring individuals are prepared for success and employers have access to qualified talent.
Recognizing the Partners Behind the Work
This milestone reflects what strong regional collaboration looks like, education, workforce, and healthcare leaders aligned around expanding opportunity.
Thank you to Jennifer Cowfer, CTC Marble Falls Site Director, for hosting and leading this effort locally.
We appreciate the leadership of Dr. Tamara Clunis, CTC Vice Chancellor of Instruction and Workforce Education, and Dr. Michele J. Carter, CTC Chancellor, for their continued commitment to advancing workforce-aligned education and investing in student success.
Thank you to WSRCA CEO Paul Fletcher for representing our organization at the dedication, and continuing to strengthen partnerships that connect training to real career opportunities.
We also recognize Gail Davalos with Workforce Network, Inc. for her support of training pathways, and Michelle Vega, a pre-nursing student, whose perspective reflects the next generation of healthcare professionals preparing to serve our region.
We appreciate Dr. Mary Rist with Texas Tech Online at the Highland Lakes Regional Campus for expanding access to continued education and advancement opportunities close to home.
And to our Board Member, Tim Ols with Baylor Scott & White, Hill Country Region, thank you for your continued partnership in helping align training with the evolving needs of the healthcare industry.
Expanding Career Pathways
Facilities like this create accessible, career-focused pathways for students pursuing healthcare professions. Whether entering the workforce directly through certification programs or continuing their education, students are gaining the skills needed to move forward with confidence.
These pathways are essential to meeting both individual career goals and regional workforce demands.
Why This Matters
This investment represents more than an upgraded lab.
It expands opportunity for students.
It strengthens the healthcare workforce pipeline.
And it supports the long-term health and vitality of rural Central Texas.
By continuing to invest in training that is aligned with employer needs, we are building a workforce system that is responsive, collaborative, and focused on results.
That is how we create lasting impact for our communities and our region.
