Across Texas, the connection between education and workforce is evolving and internships are at the center of that progress.

The Texas Intern Network represents the next step forward, building on the foundation of the former Texas Internship Challenge and expanding it into something more connected, more dynamic, and more impactful for students and employers alike.

This is not just a new name. It's a new approach.

From Awareness to Action

The Texas Internship Challenge helped bring attention to the importance of internships statewide, encouraging employers to create and promote opportunities for students.

The Texas Intern Network takes that momentum further by focusing on connection.

Through a blend of digital tools, real-world experiences, and peer networking, the initiative is designed to bring interns, employers, and partners into a shared space where opportunities are easier to access and relationships are easier to build.

A More Connected Experience for Students

Internships play a critical role in helping students move from learning to doing.

Through the Texas Intern Network, students can:

  • Explore career pathways and industries
  • Gain hands-on, real-world experience
  • Build professional networks with employers and peers
  • Strengthen their resumes with meaningful work experience

Internships are more than short-term experiences. They are stepping stones that help students build confidence, develop skills, and better understand their future career paths.

A Smarter Workforce Strategy for Employers

For employers, internships are one of the most effective ways to build a future-ready workforce.

The Texas Intern Network makes it easier to:

  • Connect with emerging talent across the state
  • Introduce students to career pathways within their organization
  • Train and evaluate potential future employees
  • Strengthen workplace culture with fresh perspectives

By investing in internships, employers are not only meeting today’s hiring needs but shaping tomorrow’s workforce.

Tools That Make Connection Possible

The Texas Intern Network brings together multiple ways to engage:

  • Statewide Internship Portal
A no-cost platform where employers can post internships and students can search and apply for opportunities across Texas.
  • LinkedIn Networking Community
A dedicated space for interns, students, and employers to connect, share opportunities, and stay engaged.
  • Event and Conference Series
Virtual and in-person events designed to connect talent with industry while offering career insights and professional development.

Together, these tools create a more seamless and accessible experience, helping internships move beyond a single opportunity into an ongoing network of support and connection.

Powered by Partnership

The Texas Intern Network is a collaborative effort that brings together key partners committed to strengthening Texas’ workforce.

In partnership with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and Texas Working Off-Campus: Reinforcing Knowledge and Skills Internship Program (TXWORKS), the initiative supports students in building industry connections while helping employers develop stronger talent pipelines.

It is also part of the broader Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative, aligning workforce, education, and economic development strategies to better serve Texans.

Expanding Access to Paid Opportunities

Access matters, and the Texas Intern Network is helping expand it.

Through programs like TXWORKS, employers who offer paid internships to undergraduate students may be eligible for reimbursement. For the 2024–2025 program year, the state contributes $15 per hour, with employers matching that amount.

This investment helps reduce barriers for students while encouraging more employers to participate in building the next generation of talent.

Why Now Is the Time to Get Involved

April is National Internship Awareness Month, making it the perfect time for employers to start planning for summer internships.

No matter the size or industry of your business, offering an internship creates meaningful opportunities for students to gain real-world experience while bringing fresh perspectives and energy into your organization.

Internships are a two-way investment. Students build skills and confidence, and employers gain early access to emerging talent while shaping the future workforce.

Why This Matters

Internships are one of the most effective ways to bridge the gap between education and employment.

They create opportunities for students to gain experience, for employers to develop talent, and for communities to build stronger, more resilient economies. Across Texas, workforce efforts continue to expand these opportunities because they play a critical role in preparing individuals for long-term success.

Looking Ahead

The Texas Intern Network reflects a broader shift in how we think about workforce development.

It is not just about filling positions. It is about building connections.

  • Connections between students and careers.
  • Connections between employers and talent.
  • Connections that strengthen the future of work across Texas.

And for regions like the Rural Capital Area, it reinforces what we know to be true. When we connect people to opportunity, we build stronger communities for everyone.
