Rural Capital Area Economy Continues to Strengthen; October Unemployment Dips to 3.5%

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The unadjusted unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas continued its trend downward for a fourth consecutive month in October 2021, dropping to 3.5 percent, down from 3.6 percent in September, according to figures released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The local economy added 6,171 jobs from September to October, with employment rising by 27,445 jobs year-to-year. The 3.5 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 20,722 residents seeking jobs. The region’s unemployment rate remained below the Texas (4.8 percent) * and the national (4.3 percent) * rates, which both saw drops in October as well.
Within the WSRCA counties, Blanco recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 3.0 percent in October. Burnet County came in at 3.3 percent. Williamson County was at 3.4 percent, while Hays County was at 3.5 percent. Bastrop County was at 3.8 percent, and Lee County was at 3.9 percent, while Caldwell and Fayette counties both came in at 4.0 percent. Llano County was at 4.4 percent.
