Rural Capital Area Unemployment Rate Increased to 3.8% in August

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ In August 2024, the unadjusted unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas increased to 3.8 percent, according to data released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) today. This means that 3.8 percent of the workforce in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) were actively seeking employment, totaling 25,579 residents. Additionally, there were more than 41,023 job openings available online across various industries*.
Since August 2023, the local labor force has grown by 13,881 residents, with 12,429 of them successfully finding employment within the area. In August, the unemployment rates in the WSRCA counties were as follows:
- Blanco: 3.0 percent (up from 2.9 percent in July)
- Burnet: 3.4 percent (up from 3.2 percent in July)
- Hays: 3.7 percent (up from 3.6 percent in July)
- Lee County: 3.5 percent (remained steady from 3.5 percent in July)
- Williamson County: 3.8 percent (up from 3.7 percent in July)
- Bastrop County: 3.8 percent (down from 3.9 percent in July)
- Fayette County: 3.6 percent (up from 3.5 percent in July)
- Caldwell: 4.1 percent (down from 4.2 percent in July)
- Llano County: 3.9 percent (up from 3.6 percent in July)
In comparison to the statewide unemployment rate, which remained steady at 4.4 percent**, the region's unemployment figures in August were lower. While the statewide rate remained steady, the national unemployment rate decreased to 4.4 percent**
