Rural Capital Area Hiring Ramps Up in March with 7,500 Jobs Added; Unemployment Slides Down to 3.6%

WSRCA March 2023 Labor Market Report

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The unadjusted unemployment rate of the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas slid to 3.6 percent in March 2023, down from 3.8 percent in February, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The 3.6 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 23,391 residents seeking employment, with more than 23,714 open jobs across all industries.* The number of area residents available for work grew by 6,037 since February, while the number employed grew by 7,495. The region’s unemployment in March remained below the Texas (4.2 percent)** and national (3.6 percent)** rates.

Within the WSRCA counties, Blanco recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 3.2 percent (down from 3.4 percent in February 2023), followed by Burnet County at 3.3 percent (down from 3.7 percent). Hays County came in at 3.4 percent unemployment (down from 3.8 percent), while Fayette and Williamson counties were at 3.6 percent (down from 4.0 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively). Lee County was at 3.8 percent (down from 4.1 percent), while Bastrop, Caldwell, and Llano counties came in at 3.9 percent (Bastrop’s rate was unchanged from February, while Caldwell’s rate dropped from 4.2 percent, and Llano dropped from 4.5 percent).
