Rural Capital Area Unemployment Rate Ticks Up to 3.4% in January 2023

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The unadjusted unemployment rate of the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas ticked up to 3.4 percent in January 2023, an increase from the 2.7 percent rate recorded in December 2022, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The 3.4 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 21,919 residents seeking employment, with more than 30,079 online job postings across all industries.* The region’s unemployment rate remained below both the Texas (4.2 percent)** and national (3.9 percent)** rates, fueled by an employment recovery of 21,138 jobs filled across the region compared to the same time last year.
Within the WSRCA counties, Blanco recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 3.0 percent (up from 2.4 percent in December 2022), followed by Burnet and Williamson counties at 3.3 percent (up from 2.7 percent). Hays County came in at 3.4 percent unemployment (up from 2.7 percent), and Bastrop County was at 3.5 percent (up from 2.9 percent). Fayette and Lee counties were at 3.7 percent (up from 3.1 percent), and Caldwell County was at 3.8 percent (up from 3.0 percent). Llano County saw an unemployment rate of 4.0 percent in January (up from 3.3 percent in December).
