Rural Capital Area Unemployment Drops for Third Consecutive Month; Rate Slides to 3.6% in September

WSRCA September 2021 Labor Market Report

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The labor market in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas continued to improve in September 2021, with the unadjusted unemployment rate sliding down to 3.6 percent, after dropping to 3.9 percent in August, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The local economy added 5,923 jobs from August to September, with employment rising by 36,737 jobs year-to-year. The 3.6 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 21,285 residents seeking jobs. The region’s unemployment rate remained below Texas’ (4.9 percent) * and the national (4.6 percent) * rates, which both saw drops in September as well.

All counties within the Rural Capital Area region saw their unemployment rates decline in September. Among them, Blanco recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 3.1 percent. Burnet County was at 3.4 percent, and Williamson County came in at 3.5 percent. In Hays County, the unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent, and in Bastrop County, the rate slid down to 3.8 percent. Lee County saw their rate drop to 3.9 percent, Fayette County was at 4.0 percent, Caldwell County recorded a 4.1 percent unemployment rate, and Llano County came in at 4.5 percent in September.
