Rural Capital Area Unemployment Rises to 3.3% in June; Available Labor Force Continues to Grow Faster than Employment

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The unadjusted unemployment rate of the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas rose to 3.3 percent in June 2022, up from 2.8 percent in May, as new residents continue to swell into the region, driving labor force availability numbers to outpace employment, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The 3.3 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 20,158 residents seeking employment, with more than 40,133 open jobs across all industries.* The number of area residents available for work grew by 5,417 in June, while the number employed grew by 2,402. The region’s unemployment rate remained below the Texas (4.4 percent)** and national (3.8 percent)** rates, which both saw increases.
All counties within the Rural Capital Area region saw unemployment rate increases in June. Among them, Blanco County recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9 percent (up from 2.6 percent in May), followed by Burnet and Williamson counties at 3.1 percent (both rose from 2.7 percent). Hays County was at 3.3 percent (up from 2.8 percent), while Bastrop, Lee and Fayette counties were at 3.7 percent (up from 3.1 percent, and 3.2 percent respectively). Caldwell and Llano counties were at 4.0 percent unemployment in June (up from 3.3 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively).
