Rural Capital Area Unemployment Creeps Up to 2.8% in May; Over 39K Open Jobs Available

CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The unadjusted unemployment rate of the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas edged up to 2.8 percent in May 2022, a slight increase from the 2.6 percent recorded in April, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The 2.8 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 17,138 residents seeking employment, with more than 39,126 open jobs across all industries.* The region’s unemployment rate remained below the Texas (3.8 percent)** and national (3.4 percent)** rates, which both saw increases.

All counties within the Rural Capital Area region saw minimal unemployment rate increases in May. Among them, Blanco County recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6 percent (up from 2.4 percent in April), followed by Burnet and Williamson counties at 2.7 percent (both inched up from 2.5 percent). Hays County was at 2.8 percent (up from 2.6 percent), while Bastrop and Lee counties were at 3.1 percent (up from 2.9 percent and 3.0 percent, respectively). Fayette County was at 3.2 percent (up from 2.9 percent), while Caldwell County was at 3.3 percent (up from 3.1 percent), and Llano County was at 3.6 percent (up from 3.4 percent).
