Parent Palooza Expo
On Saturday, October 7th, families excitedly gathered at Kalahari Resorts in Round Rock, Texas, for the Parenting Palooza Family Expo. Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) organized this first-of-its-kind free parenting engagement event for the public residing in all nine counties surrounding Austin served by WSRCA.
Ninety-three parents and seventy-two children attended the event. All participating families received free on-site child care, a free buffet lunch from Kalahari, a $25 gas card and certificates for free online parenting classes from local parenting coach Evelyn Viera.
The expo featured 30 community partners, including local businesses and organizations. Attending families could visit with these community partners at the community resource fair and learn more about their services. As well as how they can benefit from them in their communities. There was a variety of informational resource sessions for parents to attend. Parents were welcome to engage in these sessions and ask questions to the speakers to learn valuable tips.
The sessions ranged from conversations about modern-day parenting to Healthy food and nutrition alternatives for families, Smart Screen time with PBS, and a presentation from the Keynote Speaker, Maureen Healy, discussing the focus on children’s emotional health.
Parents also received a copy of Maureen Healy’s book, “The Emotionally Healthy Child.” Maureen held a book signing after her presentation where parents had the opportunity to engage and ask additional questions.
The event achieved its overall goal of assisting parents with helpful parenting tips and giving them a tool kit, they can immediately implement at home with their families.
