Winter Weather Preparedness

Winter weather conditions are coming and you know what that means: some years snow, sometimes ice, and colder temperatures. Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area would like to wish you a warm and safe holiday season and offer tips on how to stay prepared for whatever winter throws our way.

We’ve got the inside scoop on putting together the ultimate guide to keeping your squad cozy in any winter adventure.

First things first, you want to keep your emergency kit in a place that is easy to grab and go, like a big plastic box or backpack. You also want to have a smaller kit in your car in case you have to leave your home or get stuck on the road.

Now, what should you put in your emergency kit? Well, there are some basic items that everyone should have and then there are some extra items that you may need depending on your emergency kit.

  • Flashlights: remember to have extra batteries in case the power goes out.
  • Food: Keep in stock some non-perishable foods such as beef jerky, whole-wheat crackers, cereal, granola bars, dried fruit, peanut butter, jelly, and canned foods like vegetables, beans, meats, and tuna fish.
  • Water: Have on hand a three-day supply of water. It is good practice to have one gallon of water available per day for drinking.
  • Radio: A battery-powered NOAA weather radio or an A.M./F.M. battery-powered radio: This item will be helpful in receiving useful information on what’s happening outside during or after a weather emergency.
  • Cash: If ATMS are down from the power outages, be sure to keep easily accessible funds available.

There you have it, winter VIPs- your guide to staying cozy and warm this winter and letting the winter magic unfold in style.
