WSRCA Connects Families with Early Learning Support During Día del Niño Celebration
Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) Child Care Services marked a festive Día del Niño celebration on Saturday, April 26th, in San Marcos, Texas, bringing vital family resources and joyful activities together under one sunny afternoon. Stationed at the heart of the event, WSRCA’s Child Care Services team engaged parents in one-on-one conversations about child care options, eligibility, and local child care provider resources, ensuring each family left better informed about how to secure the best possible early learning environments for their children.
While parents explored service options, children were happily occupied with a suite of free, age-appropriate materials: bright coloring books, engaging activity books full of puzzles and mazes, and storybooks designed to spark imaginative play and literacy skills. Complementing these quiet stations were vibrant performances by folklórico dancers, whose colorful skirts and rhythmic footwork drew crowds of delighted onlookers. Nearby, laughter rang out from the bouncy houses, and tiny faces paused mid-jump for a stroke of paint or glitter at the popular face-painting booth.
Meanwhile, across town at the San Marcos Public Library, little ones aged zero to three and their caregivers gathered for “Baby Day”—an interactive morning of story time and sensory play stations hosted by the Start Smart Hays & Caldwell Early Childhood Coalition. Local vendors specializing in early childhood development staffed information booths, offering parents tailored guidance on milestones, health and nutrition, and community support programs. With interactive ball pits and gentle puppet shows to charm the youngest participants, Baby Day provided a calm complement to the high-energy festivities at Día del Niño.
Together, these twin events showcased the breadth of family-focused programming available in the Rural Capital Area. From the lively cultural celebration at San Marcos Plaza Park to the nurturing environment of the library’s children’s wing, parents were equipped with both practical knowledge and joyful memories—proof that strong community partnerships can make every child’s day a little brighter.
